چکیده

1 Abstract The concept of a multitrapping acoustical tweezer based on a focused ultrasound beam is presented and theoretically investigated. The beam is described in the paraxial approximation and it is generated by a concave transducer. The resulting focused beam exerts a radiation force on a small particle that is much smaller than the incident wavelength (i.e. the so-called Rayleigh scattering regime). It is shown that several trapping points are developed in the pre-focal zone (i.e. the region between the transducer and its geometric focus point) along the beam axial direction. Additionally, the possibility of using a zeroth-order Bessel and a Gaussian focused beam as a multitrapping acoustical tweezer is analysed.

Observation of a Single-Beam Gradient Force Acoustical Trap for Elastic Particles: Acoustical Tweezers.

We demonstrate the trapping of elastic particles by the large gradient force of a single acoustical beam in three dimensions. Acoustical tweezers can push, pull and accurately control both the position and the forces exerted on a unique particle. Forces in excess of 1 micronewton were exerted on polystyrene beads in the submillimeter range. A beam intensity less than 50  W/cm^{2} was required, ...

Analysis of Motion of Micro-Gripper Exposed to the Electric Field and Thermal Stresses for Using in Micro-Robotics

Micro system technology is a relatively new scientific research that deals with the development and study of properties of materials in micro dimensions. Micro-grippers are widely used in switching, positioning, and assembling micron sized components in micro-robotics. In this study, the static and dynamic behavior of visco-elastic Micro-Tweezers under the thermal and electrostatic field is...

Crosstalk elimination in the detection of dual-beam optical tweezers by spatial filtering.

In dual-beam optical tweezers, the accuracy of position and force measurements is often compromised by crosstalk between the two detected signals, this crosstalk leading to systematic and significant errors on the measured forces and distances. This is true both for dual-beam optical traps where the splitting of the two traps is done by polarization optics and for dual optical traps constructed...

Optical measurement of torque exerted on an elongated object by a non - circular laser beam

We have developed a scheme to measure the optical torque exerted by a laser beam on a phase object by measuring the orbital angular momentum of the transmitted beam. The experiment is a macroscopic simulation of a situation in optical tweezers, as orbital angular momentum has been widely used to apply torque to microscopic objects. A hologram designed to generate LG02 modes and a CCD camera are...

Faster, cheaper, safer optical tweezers for the undergraduate laboratory

A tightly focused beam of light can attract and trap micron-sized dielectric particles whose refractive index exceeds that of the surrounding medium. Although single-beam optical traps were developed only in 1986, they have already proven their worth in making possible an increasing number of experiments. Optical traps have found particular use in biophysics, where they allow one to manipulate ...
